MICR 290D General Microbiology

Representative examples of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and multi-cellular parasites are studied, with special concentration given to micro-organisms that are significant to human health. Aspects of classification, metabolism, genetics, control mechanisms, chemotherapy, and antibiotic/resistance are considered. Topics covered include principles of infectious disease transmission, immunology, biotechnology, bioterrorism, and environmental remediation. Relevant case studies and/or clinical examples will also be considered.
