“Incomplete” (I) Grades

To request an "I" grade, the student must submit the written petition to the course faculty no later than two (2) calendar days before the end of the term for ground programs and no later than seven (7) calendar days after the end of the term for online. A minimum of 50% of the course assignments must have been completed, and the student must be able to pass the class.

An "I" grade may only be issued in extenuating circumstances, as defined as beyond the student's control; examples are serious medical issues, bereavement, or government service (military or jury).  The student must present supporting documentation to the course faculty when requesting the “I” grade.  The course faculty would notify the student within 48 hours after receiving the written petition whether the “I” grade is granted and the term of the extension.

Students should note that an "I" grade does not indicate the course is completed, meets the requirements for a degree, or prerequisite requirements. All Incomplete grades must be resolved within thirty-five (35) calendar days from the date of the end of the term.

Students who are unable to complete the required coursework or clinical hours during the thirty-five (35) calendar day window may apply for an extension by providing details regarding their inability to complete coursework in the standard window of time. If the extension is approved, the student will have an additional thirty-five (35) calendar days to complete the coursework or clinical hours.

All "I" grades not resolved by the deadline (original or extended) will convert to the final grade calculated based on completed coursework.  Students who receive a non-passing grade must retake their course(s) to meet program requirements.  If the student is in their last term, they will be rescheduled for retake in the following term.  Please note that an incomplete grade may delay program progression as some courses serve as prerequisites to another.

For the evaluation of satisfactory academic progress (“SAP”), "I" grades are counted as unsuccessfully attempted credit hours but are not counted in the GPA calculation. When the "I" is converted to a final grade, the SAP calculation occurring at the end of the term in which the original “I” grade was given is recalculated.  The SAP recalculation may change the student’s SAP status and impact their financial aid eligibility.
