NURS 799 DNP Experiential Hours

This independent study provides the opportunity for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students to integrate leadership skills related to their advanced nursing roles through experiential hours that are consistent with the DNP Essentials.  Maximum hours per term will be individualized and approved by the advisor.

Experiential Hour Requirements

Students will complete 1000 post-baccalaureate experiential hours. Students will complete experiential hours that support the focus of the DNP.  The DNP student will identify a practice problem and a site that will support application-oriented learning for implementation of the DNP project. These sites will require approval by the Clinical Practice Coordinator and the student’s nursing faculty advisor must approve the project.  Each student will have a preceptor, a healthcare leader at the project site where the student will be completing practice hours and their DNP project.

A total of 490 clinical hours that were precepted or supervised by faculty in the MSN program are transferrable to the DNP. A minimum of 510 experiential hours is required in the DNP program. Students who do not have sufficient hours completed in the MSN program will be required to take a zero credit Independent Study course: NURS 799 DNP Experiential Hours. This course may be taken every term prior to the DNP Clinical Project course and up to 65 experiential hours per course will be awarded.
