NURS 665 Advanced Therapeutics

This course provides the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in the therapeutic use of pharmacologic agents. The pharmacologic treatment of major health problems will be explored. Emphasis is on the clinical pharmacologic management of selected primary health care problems of clients and their families across the life span. Principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacogenomics will also be examined. The effects of culture, ethnicity, age, pregnancy, gender and funding on pharmacologic therapy will be emphasized. Legal aspects of prescribing will be fully addressed. Therapeutic nursing interventions are fostered through exposure to prescriptive authority rules and regulations in advanced nursing practice.
