CMHC 650 Addictions and Substance Abuse Counseling

This didactic course is designed to provide a broad conceptual base of the major dimensions of addiction, substance abuse, and dependence disorders. The course explores theories of addiction; co-occurring disorders; and medical aspects, effects, and approaches to prevention, assessment, and treatment of various addictive behaviors and substance abuse/dependence disorders. Risk factors, treatment modalities, community resources, referral sources, and prevention information are discussed from a developmental and cross-cultural perspective. Course delivery methods for teaching and learning include online, blended, and face to face modalities.
